On Tuesday I noticed Romney describe Obama as a Communist and wondered if anyone would notice. Mr Krugman did and decided he had something to say about it in his NYT OP-ED, The Post-truth Campaign
Suppose that President Obama were to say the following: "Mitt Romney believes that corporations are people, and he believes that only corporations and the wealthy should have any rights. He wants to reduce middle-class Americans to serfs, forced to accept whatever wages corporations choose to pay, no matter how low."
Actually, some times I'm not sure if there isn't more truth to that statement than anyone would care to admitt, but let us get back to Krugman..
In a blatant attempt to gain notice, if not actual traction, by pandering to the an incresingly undecided and troubled electorate, Mr Romney (R-Camin Islands) attempts to protray President Obama as a raging Communist intent on destroying the very institutions which he has allowed to reap ever increasing and record breaking profits following the economic crash which devistated and is still devistating millions upon further millions of Americans.
But now consider what Mr. Romney actually said on Tuesday: "President Obama believes that government should create equal outcomes. In an entitlement society, everyone receives the same or similar rewards, regardless of education, effort, and willingness to take risk. That which is earned by some is redistributed to the others."
Romney also said President Obama wnts to "put free enterprise on trial".
Over all, Mr. Obama’s positions on economic policy resemble those that moderate Republicans used to espouse. Yet Mr. Romney portrays the president as the second coming of Fidel Castro and seems confident that he will pay no price for making stuff up.
In his electorate he won't. In fact, it will do him no good at all, with those he is looking to impress and who refuse to be impressed. They'll praise him for the statement all the while they condemn him as being on all sides of all issues, and rightly, oddly enough.
The entire article (The Post-truth Campaign) is well worth a read this morning and he covers many more instances than this one.
Thanks for taking the time to read my Diary :¬)
